Kubios 2.2 HRV Calculation Software Setup Free

heart rate variability was measured during two sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, over a 7-day interval. this study was completed on two separate occasions over a 7-day interval. in the morning session, subjects were asked to refrain from eating for at least 3 h and from any vigorous activity for at least 12 h prior to the r-r interval measurement. in the afternoon session, subjects were asked to refrain from ingesting caffeine and alcohol for at least 12 h prior to the r-r interval measurement. subjects were also asked to fast for at least 4 h prior to the measurement. r-r intervals were measured using a polar v800 and a 12-lead ecg (ge healthcare, usa). r-r intervals were measured at rest during the 5-min supine period and with subjects lying in the 45° head-up tilt (hut) position. r-r intervals were measured for 5 min in the supine position before and after the 45° hut. all r-r intervals were measured through the specialized hrv software (kubios v 2.2, joensuu, finland).

the quality of r-r intervals was assessed by visual inspection and manually corrected for artifacts. artifacts present in uncorrected (un) r-r intervals were corrected with the kubios hrv premium (ver. 3.2) automatic (ac) and threshold-based (tbc) correction, and manual correction (mc) methods. the tbc and mc methods were tested for accuracy in this study. the tbc was applied to baseline r-r intervals and either was set to either 8 or 16 beats (2.4 or 4.8s, respectively) below the minimum interval length of 500 ms with an allowed setting tolerance of ±100 ms. the mc was applied to both baseline and hut r-r intervals and allowed for a setting tolerance of ±200 ms in the correction. the tbc method was used to correct the un r-r intervals because it is the most commonly used method for r-r interval correction in the literature and the authors’ previous study []. the mc method was used to correct the baseline and hut r-r intervals because the hut correction method was not as accurate as the tbc method and the mc was more user friendly than the tbc method.

The trends of the mean differences and ES between the R-R intervals and HRV domain measures from the ECG and Polar V800 HR monitor when calculating with Kubios HRV Premium (ver. 3.2) and the ECG R-R intervals with the four correction methods are presented in Fig 2. The TBC method reduced the LoA ranges and ES by 20.0% (from 56.71 to 45.62 ms) and 27.3% (from 0.33 to 0.23) for the MC, and by 10.6% (from 60.04 to 53.78 ms) and 15.2% (from 0.33 to 0.25) for the AC, when compared to the UN R-R intervals, respectively. All HRV domain measures were improved by the TBC and MC methods; however, the AC method reduced the range of HRV domain measures only slightly from the UN uncorrected R-R intervals. There was no significant difference between the mean differences, ES, and ICC between the HRV measures and R-R intervals from the ECG and Polar V800 HR monitor. Fig 3 contains the Bland-Altman plots for the LoA and agreement between the HRV domain measures from the ECG and the UN, AC, TBC, and MC R-R intervals from the Polar V800 HR monitor. The LoA of the HRV domain measures from the ECG was from -88.93 to 89.64 ms, -79.53 to 89.51 ms, -82.09 to 90.86 ms, and -78.22 to 90.20 ms for the UN, AC, TBC, and MC R-R intervals, respectively. However, a worsening of the LoA, ES, and ICC occurred when the TBC and AC methods were applied ( Fig 3 ).
Figures 4 and 5 contain the Bland-Altman plots for the LoA and agreement between the HRV domain measures from the ECG and the UN, AC, TBC, and MC R-R intervals from the Polar V800 HR monitor. The LOA for the HRV domain measures from the ECG were from -72.47 to 70.50 ms, -59.34 to 69.33 ms, -63.22 to 70.02 ms, and -57.33 to 68.87 ms for the UN, AC, TBC, and MC R-R intervals, respectively. Similarly, a worsening of the LoA, ES, and ICC occurred when the TBC and AC methods were applied, compared to the TBC and MC methods. There was no significant difference between the LOA and HRV domain measures when using the Polar V800 HR monitor and the measured R-R intervals from the ECG. As to the subjects who had R-R intervals using the traditional method, Kubios HRV Premium (ver. 3.2), and Kubios HRV Premium (ver. 3.2) with correction, the TBC and MC methods recorded the R-R interval time series with a low level of artifacts. Further, the reason of the deterioration of LoA, ES, and ICC when the TBC and AC methods were applied, it is likely that the range of HRV domain measures reduced slightly in the TBC and MC methods when compared to the AC method.
