the urban districts are the main source of income for the colony. a district can be constructed in an area of ground marked by a red circle on the map. each district contains 3 buildings, but the first district has an additional building for its capital building, and the capital building is a special building which can’t be built in any other districts, and which is automatically built in the colony’s starting capital city.

the hives are distributed around the planet, and usually include a planetary capital city, which is the only building that cannot be built in any districts or from its colony’s capital building. additional hives unlock additional buildings for the capital building, and the capital building can be used in multiple hives at the same time.

the ecumenopolis is a type of colony that can be built in a single district. some abilities are unavailable to ecumenopolises and they don’t have a capital building. the name of the new building is displayed on the map when the colony is first constructed, but the building doesn’t show up in any other districts.

the ring worlds are a special type of colony that has an additional building slot for the capital building and which can be built in any district on the planet. ring worlds also have the unique ability to build the port of their capital building in any location on the planet, even outside the ring they are built in.

the habitats have the lowest income of all colony types, and have the fewest number of building slots. only one building slot is available for the capital building, and the starting capital city may be built in the planet’s surface region (this is the case if the colony starts on a named planet).

capital planets and habitats, using the expansion pack are split into small, medium, and large. small capital planets have everything but the ability to launch fighters, they are purely resources and defense structures, and can not be upgraded. medium capital planets have fighters, but are unable to build more than the upgrade of the small capital planets, they are also resource and defense structures. large capital planets have fighters, can build more than the small, and they are able to make the majority of production structures. large capital planets are also c&c structure, which gives an additional bonus to c&c resource structures. finally, they can produce a titular structure, which acts as a c&c and yields +10% resource production, and a sprite that shows your empire’s location on the galaxy map. capital planets can be captured by the empire that builds them.
decks are simple color coded lists of planets and their usage. planets can be colored blue, red or green, which are the colors of pure, mixed, and utility produce, respectively. planets can be colored as well for tech level and resource composition. cards can be colored blue, red, or black, and each color displays a different icon. the best, and most valuable cards will also be numbered, and have an icon that reflects their value.
most card usage is given as a set of orders for each planet. for each planet you have, you can order production, or money out of a planet. the production order represents the amount of a pure, mixed, or utility type produced. upgrading a planet requires the production of all the pure type of a particular order. mixed planets have a slightly larger production order, which means that the green planets are always produced first, regardless of the order you specify. finally, utility planets produce any card that the order allows for, and are colored blue. blue does not have any restriction on the resources, and therefore only work on blue planets.
